When to Visit

May to September offers the best weather with temperatures from 15-27°C (59-81°F) and long days. July and August are peak season with warm weather perfect for lake activities. October brings beautiful fall foliage. November to April is cold (0-10°C) with snow in winter, though indoor attractions remain open. Spring (March-May) is unpredictable with rain and occasional snow.

Visa

Check requirements

US citizens can enter with a passport. Most other nationals need an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) for visa-free entry up to 6 months. Some countries require a visa. Check requirements at cic.gc.ca.

Getting There

Transportation

By Air: Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is the main gateway, 27km northwest of downtown. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) is on an island close to downtown, handling regional flights.

By Train: Union Station is a major hub with VIA Rail connections to Montreal (5 hours), Ottawa (4 hours), and other Canadian cities.

Communication

English is the primary language. Toronto is one of the world's most multicultural cities with over 200 languages spoken, but English is universal. French is also an official language of Canada but less common in Toronto than Montreal.

Money matters

Canadian Dollar (CAD). Exchange rate roughly 1.3-1.4 CAD per USD. Cards accepted everywhere. Tipping is customary: 15-18% at restaurants, $1-2 per drink at bars, $2-5 for rideshare drivers.

Getting Around

Local transport

TTC (Transit): Subway, streetcars, and buses covering the city. Get a PRESTO card or use contactless payment. Single ride $3.25 CAD.

Uber/Lyft: Widely available.

Taxis: Abundant and metered.

Walking: Downtown, Distillery District, and waterfront areas are walkable.

From the Airport

From Pearson:
UP Express: Direct train to Union Station (25 min, $12.35 CAD).

TTC Bus + Subway: Route 192 to Kipling Station, then subway (60 min, $3.25).

Taxi/Uber: $50-70 CAD to downtown (30-45 min).

From Billy Bishop: Much closer - free ferry to mainland, then 10-min walk or short taxi to downtown.
