When to Visit

Year-round tropical climate (25-32°C/77-90°F) with high humidity. February to April is slightly drier. November to January sees more rain but also cooler temperatures. Avoid Chinese New Year (January/February) when prices spike and many businesses close.

US, Canadian, EU, Australian, and many other nationals can visit Singapore visa-free for 30-90 days depending on nationality. Check requirements at ica.gov.sg. Most Western passport holders get 30 days visa-free.

Transportation

By Air: Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) is consistently ranked among the world's best airports, located 20km northeast of the city. Excellent connections to all of Asia and beyond.

By Land: Connected to Malaysia via causeway and second link bridge. Buses and trains available.

Language

Communication

English is one of four official languages (along with Mandarin, Malay, Tamil). English is widely spoken and is the language of business and education. Singlish (Singapore English) is the local dialect with unique expressions.

Currency

Money matters

Singapore Dollar (SGD). Exchange rate roughly 1.35-1.40 SGD per USD. Cards accepted everywhere - Singapore is nearly cashless. Get an EZ-Link or NETS FlashPay card for transit and small purchases. ATMs widely available.

Getting Around

Local transport

MRT (Metro): Extensive, clean, and efficient system covering the entire island. Get an EZ-Link card.

Buses: Comprehensive network, same EZ-Link card works.

Taxis: Abundant and metered. Uber/Grab available.

Walking: Central areas like Marina Bay, Orchard Road, and Chinatown are very walkable, though it's hot and humid.

MRT: East-West Line from Changi Airport to city center (30-40 min, S$2-3).

Airport Shuttle: Door-to-door service (S$9 per person, 30-60 min).

Taxi: Fixed rates by zone (S$20-40 to city center, 20-30 min).
