Before You Go
April to June and September to October offer ideal weather with temperatures from 15-25°C (59-77°F), fewer crowds than summer, and perfect conditions for walking. July and August are peak season - warm (20-28°C) but crowded. November to March is cooler (5-12°C) with fewer tourists and lower prices. Spring brings cherry blossoms and fall offers beautiful foliage.

Getting There
TransportationBy Air: Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) is the main international hub, 25km northeast. Orly Airport (ORY) is closer (14km south) and handles some international flights.
By Train: Gare du Nord is a major European rail hub with Eurostar to London (2.5 hours), Thalys to Brussels/Amsterdam, and TGV to other French cities.
Language
CommunicationFrench is the official language. English is spoken in tourist areas, hotels, and by younger people, but less so in local neighborhoods and traditional bistros. Learning basic French phrases is appreciated.
Currency
Money mattersEuro (EUR). Cards accepted at most hotels, restaurants, and shops, but cash is still preferred at smaller establishments, markets, and cafes. Many places have minimum amounts for card use. ATMs widely available.
Getting Around
Local transportMetro: Extensive 16-line system covering the entire city. Get a Navigo card or single-use tickets. Clean and efficient.
Buses: Comprehensive network, same tickets as metro.
Walking: Central Paris is very walkable - most major sites are within walking distance.
Taxis/Uber: Available but can be expensive. Use official taxis only.
From the Airport
Arrival infoFrom CDG:
RER B: Direct train to central Paris (35-50 min, €11.45).
Roissybus: Direct bus to Opéra (60 min, €13.70).
Taxi: Fixed rate €53 to right bank, €58 to left bank (45-60 min).
From Orly:
Orlyval + RER B: Automated train then RER (35 min, €12.05).
Orlybus: Direct to Denfert-Rochereau (30-40 min, €9.50).
Taxi: Fixed rate €37 to right bank, €32 to left bank (30-45 min).
