Before You Go

When to Visit

April to June and September to October offer the best weather with temperatures from 18-26°C (64-79°F) and comfortable conditions. July and August are hot and humid with temperatures often exceeding 30°C (86°F). Winter is mild but rainier. Spring and fall have fewer tourists while maintaining access to nearby Amalfi Coast and Pompeii.

Visa

Check requirements

EU/EEA citizens can enter freely. US, Canadian, Australian, and many other nationals can visit visa-free for up to 90 days within the Schengen Area. Verify at esteri.it.

Getting There

Transportation

By Air: Naples International Airport (NAP) is 7km northeast of the city center.

By Train: Napoli Centrale is the main station with high-speed trains to Rome (1 hour), Florence (3 hours), and Milan (4.5 hours). Circumvesuviana trains connect to Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Sorrento.

By Ferry: Connections to Sicily, Sardinia, and the islands (Capri, Ischia, Procida).

Language

Communication

Italian is the official language, with a strong Neapolitan dialect. English is spoken in tourist areas and nicer hotels but is limited in local neighborhoods. Neapolitans are warm and expressive - gestures help communication.

Currency

Money matters

Euro (EUR). Cards accepted at hotels and many restaurants, but cash is king in Naples - small trattorias, pizzerias, street food vendors, and markets prefer cash. ATMs available throughout the city.

Funiculars: Four funicular railways connect waterfront to hilltop neighborhoods like Vomero.
