When to Visit

May to October offers warm weather (20-30°C/68-86°F) and everything is open. July-August is peak party season - very crowded and expensive but the scene is at its peak. June and September offer great weather with fewer crowds. Winter sees most businesses close.

EU/EEA citizens can enter freely. US, Canadian, Australian, and many other nationals can visit visa-free for up to 90 days within the Schengen Area. Check mfa.gr.

Transportation

By Air: Mykonos Airport (JMK) has direct flights from Athens (45 min) and European cities in summer.

By Ferry: From Athens' Piraeus port (2.5-5 hours depending on ferry type), Santorini (2-3 hours), other islands.

Communication

Greek is official. English very widely spoken due to tourism - most locals speak English.

Currency

Money matters

Euro (EUR). Cards accepted at most places but cash useful for beach clubs, water taxis, and smaller tavernas. ATMs in main towns. Note: Mykonos is expensive.

Getting Around

Local transport

Buses: Connect main towns and beaches (€2). Can be crowded, especially to popular beaches.

Taxis: Limited and expensive. Long waits at taxi stands in summer (€15-40 depending on distance).

Rental Cars/ATVs: Popular for beach hopping (€30-80/day). Roads are good but parking challenging at beaches.

Scooters: Common rentals (€20-40/day) but traffic can be hectic.

Water Taxis: Connect beaches on south coast (€10-20).

Walking: Mykonos Town (Chora) is compact, walkable, and car-free in center.

From the Airport

Arrival info

Bus: To Mykonos Town (15-20 min, €2) but infrequent.

Taxi: To Mykonos Town €15-20, to beach areas €20-35 (10-25 min). Long waits in summer.

Hotel Transfer: Many hotels offer pickup.
