When to Visit

December to April offers perfect weather with temperatures from 20-27°C (68-81°F), sunny skies, and low humidity - peak tourist season. May to November is hot and humid (28-32°C) with hurricane season (June-November) and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Summer has lower prices but intense heat. Art Basel in December brings crowds and higher prices.

Visa

Check requirements

International visitors from Visa Waiver Program countries can stay up to 90 days without a visa (requires ESTA authorization). Citizens of other countries need a B-2 tourist visa. Canadian and Mexican citizens have simplified entry requirements. Check requirements at travel.state.gov.

Getting There

Transportation

By Air: Miami International Airport (MIA) is the main gateway, 13km west of downtown. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) is 40km north and often has cheaper flights.

By Car: I-95 runs north-south, connecting to Fort Lauderdale and other Florida cities.

Language

Communication

English is the primary language. Spanish is widely spoken - Miami is a bilingual city with a large Latin American population. Many signs and services are in both languages.

Currency

Money matters

US Dollar (USD). Credit cards accepted everywhere. ATMs widely available. Tipping is customary: 18-20% at restaurants, $1-2 per drink at bars, $2-5 for rideshare drivers.

Getting Around

Local transport

Metrorail: Elevated train connecting downtown to suburbs (single ride $2.25).

Metromover: Free automated people mover in downtown/Brickell.

Buses: Extensive network covering entire metro area.

Uber/Lyft: Widely available and affordable.

Trolley: Free trolley service in some neighborhoods.

Walking: South Beach, Wynwood, and Brickell are walkable neighborhoods.

From the Airport

Arrival info

Metrorail: Orange Line from MIA to downtown (20 min, $2.25).

SuperShuttle: Shared shuttles ($15-25 per person, 30-45 min).

Uber/Taxi: $25-40 to South Beach (20-30 min), $20-30 to downtown (15-25 min).

From FLL: Tri-Rail + Metrorail connection (60-75 min, $5-7) or Uber ($40-60, 45-60 min).
