Before You Go

When to Visit

October to May offers the best weather with mild temperatures (15-25°C/59-77°F) and minimal rain. November to February is cooler and perfect for exploring. June to September brings daily afternoon showers but fewer tourists. The city sits at 2,240m elevation - expect cooler nights and thinner air.

Visa

Check requirements

US, Canadian, EU, Australian, and many other nationals can enter Mexico visa-free for up to 180 days as tourists. You'll receive a FMM (tourist card) on arrival - keep it safe as you'll need it to exit. Check inm.gob.mx for requirements.

Getting There

Transportation

By Air: Mexico City International Airport (MEX/AICM) is Latin America's busiest hub, located 5km east of the city. New Felipe Ángeles Airport (NLU) opened 40km north.

By Bus: First-class buses connect to all major Mexican cities from TAPO, Terminal Norte, Terminal Sur, and Terminal Poniente stations.

Language

Communication

Spanish is the official language. English is spoken in tourist areas, upscale restaurants, and hotels in neighborhoods like Polanco, Condesa, and Roma, but basic Spanish is very helpful elsewhere.

Currency

Money matters

Mexican Peso (MXN). Exchange rate roughly 17-20 MXN per USD. Cards accepted at most restaurants and shops in central neighborhoods, but cash is essential for street food, markets, and taxis. ATMs widely available - withdraw large amounts to minimize fees.
